Junior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) took first place in the shot put with a top heave of 41-02.25. Duncan also placed second in the hammer throw (167-06) and was sixth in the discus (104-01). Also winning events for Bates were first-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) in the 100-meter hurdles (16.57), senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) in the 400-meter dash (1:01.45), sophomore Katherine Collet (Leawood, Kan.) in the 400 hurdles (1:12.59) and sophomore Kerri Leonhardt (Milford, N.J.) in the 5,000 (19:27.34). Alexander also placed third in the 100 hurdles (17.59). Other top three performances by the Bobcats included senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) coming in second in the long jump (16-06.50); first-year Abby King (Wellesley, Mass.) placing third in the triple jump (33-08.50); sophomore Megan Schleck (Mendota Heights, Minn.) coming in second in the pole vault (9-03.00) and third in the high jump (4-07.00); sophomore Alexandra Steverson (New London, N.H.) and first-year Rebecca Dugan (Port Murray, N.J.) finishing second and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13:15.46 and 13:21.28, respectively; sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.) and senior Tara Higgins (Jeffersonville, Vt.) coming in second and third in the 400, in 1:02.26 and 1:04.49, respectively; sophomore Chloe Bourne (Litchfield, Conn.) coming in second in the 800-meter run (2:32.00); sophomore Lindsay Soule (South Portland, Maine) placing third in the 400 hurdles (1:14.69); first-year Elizabeth Carleton (Westborough, Mass.) finishing third in the 200 (28.55); and the Bates A and B teams placing first and second, respectively, in the 4x400 relay, in 4:18.60 and 4:22.14, respectively. Bates competes at Colby next Saturday, along with MIT, starting at 12 p.m. |
