Today's events and programs

2009-2010 PARKING LOTTERY - The Parking Committee would like to announce the 2009-2010 Parking Lottery. The lottery opens today April 6 at 4:00 PM and runs for two weeks ending on April 20 at 3:59 PM. Anyone looking to have a parking permit next year on campus must register on Garnet Gateway under the Main Menu for the parking lottery. Those looking for commuter permits should contact Security all other inquires about the parking lottery should be directed to the Parking Committee via email at stparking@bates.edu.

An easel will be available in Commons, Friday-Monday, for student, staff, and faculty feedback regarding the following question: As part of a local "GET DOWN(TOWN) TO BUSINESS CAMPAIGN," a group of students is working with the Downtown Education Collaborative to create a College Guide to Lewiston-Auburn, which will be available at all four colleges in L/A. We hope to include all sorts of things to do, places to go, and events to see. We want your input, though! The easel will include a list of some of information we plan to include. Please add to this list any other businesses, places of interest, or informational details which you think we should include. Thank you!! Feeling Stressed?  Come TO MINDFULNESS MEETINGS  - Every Monday, 12:10-12:40 *Please note the change to Mondays* 161 Wood St. Chaplaincy Common Room (#227) With Emily Wright-Timko. Mindfulness is a way of being aware of the present moment, developing gentleness toward ourselves and others, and releasing distracting thoughts of the past or future.  Each meeting, we'll check in, and then Emily will offer a brief poem or reading followed by a guided mindfulness practice. The Peer Writing Center in Ladd is open from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights as well as Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5. INTERRACIAL ASIAN ADOPTION: C.N. Le is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department and Director of the Asian & Asian American Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  He is the author of the recently-published book Asian American Assimilation: Ethnicity, Immigration, and Socioeconomic Attainment  (2007). His lecture is titled, "Interracial Asian Adoption:  Issues and Identity in 21st  Century American Society".  7:00 pm in Muskie Room.

ENVIROLUNCH SERIES.  Join us in an informal Bates community gathering around environmental topics. Pizza provided.  Today's topic: A Sustainability Plan for Bates. Julie Rosenbach, Bates’ Environmental Coordinator will present a sustainability plan for Bates which combines ongoing and planned campus sustainability efforts with our commitment to become climate neutral.  The EnviroLunch Series is  sponsored by the Environmental Studies Program and the Office of the Environmental Coordinator. DOODLING: There's a lot of doodling going on out there!
