Benisch, Piacquad win singles matches in women's tennis

Bates received wins at first and second singles from senior Caryn Benisch (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Alex Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.), respectively. Piacquad fought through her recent illness to play her best match of the season, prevailing 6-2, 6-2 over Arielle Leben. Benisch outlasted Amanda Tramont in three sets at No. 1. The match had already been decided when Trinity's Olivia Merns and Bates junior Jean Gulliver (Falmouth, Maine) started play at No. 6 singles. The two played a pro set, with Merns winning 8-1.
