Access to the Internet Using BatesGuest

BatesGuest is a private wireless network that requires a username and password.  If you do not have a Bates User Account please contact the office sponsoring your visit.  The application process may take up to 48 hours, and is subject to approval.  

A. Available Services: (during the limited, fixed time of the Account)

1. Internet Access, including accessing your web based e-mail, via ports 80 and 443, HTTP and HTTPS respectively
2. BatesGuest access to other private network environments is not guaranteed. Please contact your business or home institution for details on connecting to their services remotely.
3. Printing, printing through this service is not available 
4. Open access, or printing, please use the public kiosks located throughout The George and Helen Ladd Library, New Commons, and the Bates College Imaging Center.

B. To Connect with a Windows Computer:

1. Turn on wireless capability (if not automatic)
2. Right click on wireless icon in system tray
3. Choose View Available Wireless Connections
4. Choose BatesGuest
   [NOTE: there is no security with this connection]
5. Click Connect

C. To Connect with a Macintosh Computer:

1. Turn on Airport
2. Click on Airport icon toView Wireless Available Connections
3. Choose BatesGuest
4. Click ok

Launch a web browser and you will be prompted to enter your Bates User Account credentials.
