Bates junior Rich McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) came in second in the shot put at 49-07.00 and was also seventh in the discus throw (142-02), a day after finishing third in the hammer throw. Sophomore Christopher Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.), fresh off his second straight NESCAC title in the javelin throw, finished third at New Englands with a season-high 180-07) Senior Jerome Bennett (Chicago, Ill.) placed fourth in the high jump (6-02.75), and also tied for fifth in the pole vault (14-03.25). Sophomore Devin Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.) came in fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:41.76. First-year Sam Goldstein (Memphis, Tenn.) placed fourth in the pole vault (14-03.25). The 4x100 relay team of first-year Mike Jiang (Madison, Conn.), first-year Canasophomore Pat Carroll (North Andover, Mass.), first-year Candido Bousquet (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and sophomore Ryan Quinn (Watertown, Mass.) finished fifth in 43.28 seconds, for another four team points. Quinn also placed eighth in the 200 (22.64). Friday Recap Sophomore Brett Epler (Wellesley, Mass.) opened up the meet with half of the decathlon starting on Thursday and finishing Friday. Epler scored three points for Bates by finishing sixth with 5.736 points. Epler's best event was the 1,500-meter race, where he finished second in a time of 4:37.59. He was also tied for third in the high jump (5-11.50), fourth in the long jump (20-04.25) and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.22). Rich McNeil placed third in the hammer throw with a top heave of 177-03, scoring six points for the Bobcats. Candido Bousquet placed fifth in the long jump at 22-08.50 for four points, the second-best mark in the long jump in Bates history. |
