AMHERST, Mass. -- Two more program records fell for the Bates College women's track and field team on Saturday at the all-divisions Open New England Championships at UMass-Amherst.
The Bobcats scored 16 points, good for 19th place out of 36 scoring teams at the meet.

Senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) broke the team record for the outdoor 800 meters, finishing in 2:13.42, good for fifth place out of 28 competitors. It was Alexander's first 800-meter race since the indoor season. The former record of 2:14.28 was set by Jen Caban '07 in 2007.

Alexander also had a hand in handily breaking the Bates record in the 4x400 relay. First-year Liz Carleton (Westborough, Mass.), sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.), senior Tara Higgins (Jeffersonville, Vt.) and Alexander finished ninth overall in a time of 3:58.82. The former record of 4:00.40 was set in 2006 by Danielle Touhey '06, Kathleen Nugent '06, Ashley Wentworth '06 and a first-year Izzy Alexander.

In other Bates highlights, junior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) placed fifth in the shot put (42-11.75), with the top mark by a Division III thrower. Meanwhile, senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) finished ninth in the triple jump at 36-05.75.

Friday Recap

First-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) lowered her own Bates record in the 100-meter hurdles by 0.01 seconds, with a preliminary heat time of 15.69 seconds, 12th best out of 20 competitors. Izzy Alexander finished 14th in 16.35. Tobin was also 28th in the 400-meter hurdles, at 1:08.50.

Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan recorded a lifetime best mark in the hammer throw on Friday. Duncan's top throw of 180-11 topped all 22 competitors but one, Jasmine Jennings of the University of Rhode Island (193-09), and was more than two feet beyond third-place Jamie Kilis of Sacred Heart. Duncan had already met the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships earlier in the season.

Duncan's eight team points were the only ones scored by the Bobcats on the day, but a number of other performances were notable.

Dana Lindauer had a lifetime-best performance in the 200 meters, finishing 22nd in 26.39 seconds. She was also 19th in the 400 meters with a time of 59.35 seconds.
