Bates College invites applications for an entry level, tenure-track position in Modern European History to begin in September 2010. Responsibilities include a one-semester survey of Modern European History (1789-1950), upper division courses in the candidate’s areas of specialization, and senior thesis advising. We envision a curriculum centered on transnational and thematic history. Key topics might include empire and colony, economic history, genocide, and women’s history. Strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level and to research and publication are primary qualifications. Candidates should have certified completion of dissertation by time of employment. Review of applications will begin immediately and we expect to bring candidates to campus in late November and early December.
