Camels nip men's soccer with late goal, 1-0
September 12,
2009
Murdoch (Cropseyville, N.Y.) beat a Bates defender and took a shot that was deflected by Bates sophomore goalie Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.), but Murdoch was there to knock in the rebound for the unassisted tally. Bates missed several golden scoring opportunities in the game, including a final one with about five minutes left in the game, when junior Patrick Jackson's (Durham, N.H.) header glanced off the goalpost. The most dramatic play of the game took place at the final buzzer of the period, as sophomore Chris Okano (Los Angeles, Calif.) knocked in a cross from junior Tyler Dewdney (Meriden, N.H.). The Camels outshot the Bobcats by a 19-15 margin, making Watts work for a career high-tying 11 saves to three for his Camels counterpart, senior Alex Martland (Marblehead, Mass.). Bates will next play at rival Bowdoin College on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m.; the Camels will play at Williams at the same time. |
