Bates wins Colby Invitational with 4-0 start to season

The Bobcats defeated Husson 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-23) after beating rival Colby in a non-conference match 3-1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-19, 25-13) on Saturday. Sophomore Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) had 11 kills and six service aces against Colby and won tournament MVP honors, the first of her career. Senior Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) racked up 13 kills, five digs and two blocks, while seniors Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) and Tess Dokus (Fairport, N.Y.) contributed nine and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) passed out 43 assists and first-year Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the back row with 28 digs. Dokus collected a team-high eight kills in the win over Husson, while Masters and Russell added five apiece. First-year Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) had six kills and junior Rachel Colby (Willimantic, Conn.) had eight assists with four digs. Bates will host Trinity on Friday at 6 p.m. in its NESCAC conference opener. |
