Friday, September 18th - CREOLE TABLE - Focus: Mexico - 4:30 pm, Multicultural Center - Guest Speaker: Dr. Marco Polo Hernández Cuevas, Associate Professor of Spanish, Department of Modern Foreign Languages, North Carolina Central University RSVP to ttaylor@bates.edu (seating is limited) by today.  The Creole Table is a language/cultural program of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, which meets on selected Friday evenings. Each meeting combines dinner and discussion about a particular Creole society. Creole societies, which exist throughout the world, are defined by their multicultural, multi-racial/ethnic and polyglot populations as well as by similar histories of forced migrations (resulting from slavery or indenture), agricultural labor, plantation economies and the creation of new languages. "Creole" refers to, variously, language, race, cuisine, religion and culture.

Interested in trying out for the WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM? If so, please attend the fall informational meeting at 7:00 PM in Carnegie 204. See you then!

SCIENCE LECTURE: The Bates College Chemistry Department cordially invites you to attend the George S. Hammond ’43, H’73 Eminent Scientist Lecture on Where in the World Will Energy Come From by Dr. Nathan Lewis, George L. Argyros Professor of Chemistry, California Institute of Technology. Dr. Lewis is an internationally known alternative energy expert and chemistry professor whose research team is using nanotechnology to develop more efficient solar cells. 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, Olin Arts Center Concert Hall - Admission is free, but tickets are required. The George S. Hammond '43 H'73 Eminent Scientist Lecture fund was established in honor of the internationally recognized scientist George S. Hammond by his students and associates from Iowa State College to support lectures by important and eminent scientists.
