Bates College Presents THE FIFTH ANNUAL TASTE OF LEWISTON-AUBURN – TODAY from 11am-1pm – in the Gray Cage. Come have a taste of what many great restaurants in the Lewiston-Auburn Area has to offer.  Participants include Mother India, Fish Bones, Gritty McDuff's, and many more! THE MULTIFAITH CHAPLAINCY - Mindfulness Meditation – today from 12:10-12:40 – Chapel -  Chaplaincy Mindfulness is the awareness that emerges  through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment,  and non-judgmentally to things as they are.  Each session will open with a brief poem or reading followed by a guided meditation practice  such as loving-kindness meditation, basic mindfulness, mindful eating, the body scan, walking meditation, and more.

THE STRANGE BEDFELLOWS, Bates’ one and only improv group, will be holding auditions this week! Please come to either group A or B and show us your WILD SIDE! Today and Thursday from 4-6 (group A) and 7-9 (group B) in Skelton Lounge.

MUSEUM OF ART LECTURE: Art maven Carl Little discusses the work of Bernard Langlais, putting his abstract wood constructions featured in the current museum exhibition in the context of his greater ouevre.  Among Carl Little's many books are Edward Hopper's New England and The Watercolors of John Singer Sargent. His reviews and articles appear in a range of regional and national publications, including Art New England and Art in America. He contributed an essay to the catalogue for the exhibition "Bernard Langlais: Independent Spirit" at the Portland Museum of Art in 2002. – Today at 6:00 pm in Olin 104

Tonight, the Harward Center for Community Partnerships inaugurates its 2009-2010 CIVIC FORUM series with a panel presentation entitled, "Dealing with Climate Change: The Debate among Policy Makers.”  Panelists will include Ted Koffman, the Executive Director of Maine Audubon, and former chair of the Natural Resources Council; Pete Didisheim, Advocacy Director of the Natural Resources Council of Maine; Melissa Carey, Climate Change Policy Specialist with the Environmental Defense Fund; and Tom Tietenberg, Professor Emeritus of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at Colby College.  The panel will focus on the pros, cons, points of confusion and contention in the current policy debate over climate change. The panel will be held at 7:30pm in the Muskie Archives. The Civic Forum is a lively series that invites the audience to wrestle with and explore civic, political and policy issues of significance to the Bates community, Maine, and beyond. Jon Furbush will be running an ADVANCED CONDITIONING CLASS to the open campus starting this Thursday September 24th at 8pm in Alumni Gym. The class will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 8-8:30 pm through the month of October.  During October break week there will be class on Monday the 19th, but no class on Tuesday or Thursday of that week.  The purpose of the class is to enhance the endurance, speed and quickness for those who are looking to get into shape.  Proper workout clothing and footwear is required.  Attendance will never be taken and anyone is welcome to show up for any given day.
