Members of the Bates Community:

On Monday October 19th,2009 at approximately 6:00PM, a Bates College student reported that while she was jogging alone in the area of Summer St. in Lewiston, that she was accosted by three or four male subjects who were driving in an older model black four door sub compact vehicle similar to a Honda Accord with a Maine license plate that began with the letter "J". The encounter ended when the student threatened to call the police.

The student described one of the males in the vehicle as a white male, tall slim build,thin face, mid to late twenties and wearing a black knit cap. A composite sketch of the suspect is attached. The Police and Bates College Security are actively investigating this incident. To report any further information, please call Bates Security at 786-6254 or the Lewiston PD at 795-9010.

We are urging all members of the Bates community to use caution when jogging/walking in areas immediately adjacent to campus, and encourage everyone to be in groups or pairs whenever possible. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
