Fortepianist Zvi Meniker to perform at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine -- Zvi Meniker, an Israeli fortepianist, will perform a concert of works by Hayden, Mozart and Beethoven at Bates College on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. Meniker will give the inaugural performance on Bates's new fortepiano, a replica by Rodney Regier of Freeport, of a piano made by Anton Walter in about 1790. The program will include Haydn's "Piano Sonata in E-flat," Beethoven's "E-flat Sonata, Op. 31, no. 3" and several short pieces by Mozart, including "Adagio in B minor" and "Rondo in A minor." The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Meniker teaches at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany and was educated at the Basel Conservatory and Cornell University. In his latest recording project on Claves Records, he participates in performing the complete Beethoven piano sonatas on historic instruments or replicas of historic instruments.
