Mid-Coast Chamber Orchestra to perform at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Mid-Coast Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Paul Ross, will open its eighth season with a concert at Bates College on November 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The program features pianist Virginia Eskin in concertos by Clara Schumann and Franz Liszt. Tickets at the door are $8 for general admission and $4 for students and seniors. Tickets are available in advance for $7/$3 at CarrollÕs Music in Lewiston and MacbeanÕs Music in Brunswick. Call 207-725-5657 for more information.

Eskin has performed concertos with the San Francisco, Buffalo and Utah symphonies; the Israel Sinfonietta and the Boston Pops Orchestra. She has appeared as a commentator on National Public RadioÕs "A Note to You." Her chamber music appearances include performances with the Portland String Quartet, with whom she recorded the Dvorak Piano Quintet in 1995. A specialist in the work of women composers, her recordings include "Rags by Women" and works by American composers Rebecca Clarke and Amy Beach. She attended Trinity College, London University, and is a member of the music departments at Boston and Northeastern universities.

Founded in 1990, the Mid-Coast Chamber Orchestra is an auditioned orchestra that rehearses weekly in Brunswick and performs in towns throughout the mid-coast region.
