Developmental psychologist to speak at Bates LEWISTON, Maine -- Vonnie C. McLoyd, a developmental psychologist and former associate editor of Child Development journal, will discuss the interactive influences of race, ethnicity, family and economic hardship on human development at Bates College on McLoyd has been a pioneer in describing the psychological processes through which economic deprivation influences African-American families and children. She is a professor of psychology and a research scientist at the University of Michigan's Center for Human Growth and Development, and currently she is a visiting professor at Duke University. She received a bachelor's degree from Talladega College and a master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan.
