FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bang On a Can All-Stars to perform at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bang On A Can All-Stars, an amplified ensemble that blends jazz, classical, new music and rock, will perform in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at Bates College on October 25 at 8 p.m. The concert will feature compositions from the group's two Sony Classical releases, "Industry" and "Cheating, Lying, Stealing," as well as works by Steve Reich and Tom Johnson. Admission at the door is $10 and $5 for students and seniors. Reservations may be made by calling 207-786-6135.

Bang On A Can All-Stars have been described by the New York Times as "a fiercely aggressive group, combining the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble." Composed of Maya Beiser on cello, Robert Black on bass, Lisa Moore on piano, Steven Schick on percussion, Mark Stewart on electric guitar, Evan Ziporyn on clarinet and saxophone, and artistic directors Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe, Bang On A Can All-Stars were listed among California's top-10 classical concerts of 1995 by the San Diego Union-Tribune. They have appeared in Lincoln Center's Great Performers series in New York and at the Meltdown Festival at the South Bank Centre in London.
