This section contains a history of Bates faculty census reports as of October each year.  Information includes headcounts, full-time equivalencies, age, gender and racial/ethnic demographics, breakdowns by rank and tenure status, highest degrees, and department and program full-time equivalencies.

All summaries reflect October's best estimate of the College faculty count and contracts for the entire academic year. (Because of the timing of surveys, the fall census must be used for most external reporting needs.  Typically, faculty counts are revised slightly upward during the winter term, and year-end figures are reflected in historical faculty headcount and full-time equivalency summaries.)

Note that there are many ways to count faculty, and that reporting practices differ significantly from institution to institution.
