Minor Requirements

The requirements for a minor in Economics include a total of seven Economics courses. The titles of the required courses are listed below. Complete course descriptions can be found in the Bates College Catalog.

Introductory Courses (2)

Econ 101 Principles of Microeconomics: Prices and Markets

Econ 103 Principles of Macroeconomics: Income and Employment

Statistics  Course (1)

Econ 250 Statistics1

Students who have failed ECON 101, 103 or 250 at Bates College may not receive credit towards the minor for an equivalent course taken at another institution.


Electives (4)

Any four Economics courses or units. Only one short term unit may be counted towards the seven courses required for the minor in Economics.

 

1 The following statistics courses may be substituted for Economics 250 (by students majoring in these departments or programs) for purposes of the minor:  Biology 244, Biostatistics; Environmental Studies 181, Working with Environmental Data; Mathematics 315, Statistics; Psychology 218: Statistics and Experimental Design.
