"Wasted" to be staged at Bates LEWISTON, Maine -- An alumnus of Bates College has collaborated with a cast of Bates student actors to create a play about a year in the life of Bates College. Written by Brian Flynn, Bates class of '82, "Wasted" will be performed on An English teacher at Edward Little High School in Auburn, Flynn did not determine the form or content of the play, subtitled "Thoughts Tasted, Moments Wasted: Perspectives on Bates College Culture 1995-96," until he chose cast members. "We will collaboratively write a full-length play about Bates College culture in 14 days and mount the production in the following three weeks," Flynn informed his troupe. "We began a dialogue about the 'Bates experience,' addressing events, traditions, rituals, personalities and perspectives. Each of the actors became, to some extent, authors of the play, offering insights and written contributions," Flynn said. The ensemble cast includes Jennifer Mahoney '97, Tanya Stepasiuk '97 , John Bechtold '99, Emily White '99, Shannon Maguire '00, Sagun K.C. '00 , Lauren Todd '99, Adam Thompson '00, Susannah Heelan '99, Heidi Rozene '00, Douglas Krause '99, Maia Halperin '99 and Jonathan Adler '00. The play will be stage managed by senior Erika Timperman and her assistant, sophomore Emily White. Set design for the production will be provided by sophomores Peter Heslip and Sheela Madhani. Lighting design will be provided by Josh Williamson, assisted by lighting-board operator senior Braden Buehler. Sound design, costume design and props will be provided by sophomore Ben Strange, junior Danielle DiMonda and sophomore Joan Reddick respectively.
