Next Reunion in 2003. Got news? Tap out a note to magazine@bates.edu! From among more than a thousand entrants from 80 nations, Steve Goddard won the $10,000 second prize in an international writing competition annually sponsored by The Economist and Royal Dutch/Shell Oil Company. This year's theme was global mobility, and entrants wrote a 2,000-word essay on the topic "Going Faster — but Where?" Steve's winning entry is posted at www.stephengoddard.com. Steve is now writing his third book, Race to the Sky, on the events surrounding the Wright Brothers' first flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903.
