Next Reunion in 2005. Got news? Tap out a note to magazine@bates.edu! Nick Basbanes launched his national tour at Christie's in Manhattan for his new book, Patience and Fortitude: A Roving Chronicle of Book Peoples, Book Places and Book Culture. Longtime book editor and columnist for Worcester (Mass.) Telegram & Gazette, Nick's first book, A Gentle Madness, was a great success. (And it all started with The Bates Student?).... Jane Downing, senior program officer with the Pittsburgh Foundation, has received the H.J. Heinz Award for Outstanding Community Service.
