At the October 2001 annual meeting of the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod, Thomas Stone was given the Environmental Achievement Award by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs for producing the atlas Losing Cape Cod: Land Use Change over 40 Years. The award cites his "outstanding contribution to open space preservation and environmental education." For the same work, he also received a citation from the Senate of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
