Springfield, Mass. - Bates jumped to an early lead with a quick goal scored by middie Dan Ross (Chevy Chase, MD).  Amherst gained the lead in the final minutes of the first quarter on two goals.  Bates evened the score with another goal by sophomore attackman Peter Friedman (Putney, VT).  The Jeffs quickly responded with another goal of their own.

Before half-time, however, Amherst had scored another 5 goals.  In the second half, with Bates was able to muster only one more goal, while the Jeffs scored 6 more times.

Amherst has a record of 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.  Bates has dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.
