Men's lacrosse downed by Wesleyan, 7-6

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Wesleyan University scored four goals in the first quarter and then held off Bates College for a 7-6 win in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game at West Haven High School.

Chris Knacke scored three of Wesleyan's (4-1, 1-0 NESCAC) four goals in the opening quarter, upping his season total to a team-best 10.

Bates cut the lead to one, 7-6, with one minute to go in regulation on a Jeff Critchlow (Carlisle, Mass.) goal. The Bobcats gained possession of the ball with 30 seconds remaining, but a Jon Fador (Winchester, Mass.) shot went over the goal and Critchlow's shot a the horn was saved by Wesleyan's goalie.

Fador found the net twice for Bates (3-5, 0-4). Mark Dobbyn (Warren, R.I.) tallied 16 saves. Three of Bates' six goals came on extra-man opportunities.

Matt Wheeler recorded 12 saves for the Cardinals.

Bates will host Plymouth State, Tuesday night, March 25, at 7 p.m.
