2003

7/28, 2003: Thanks to a National Science Foundation grant program, a Bates neuroscience major took part in a kind of intensive research this summer that could prove decisive in the next chapters of her life.
5/28, 2003: Five Bates student-athletes earned All-America honors at the 2003 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held last weekend at St. Lawrence University's Merrick-Pinkard Track.
6/10, 2003: Emily M. Peckenham, a recent Bates College graduate from Orland, has received a Fulbright Student award for postgraduate work in Germany.
5/15, 2003: Bates College senior Smadar Bakovic of Neve Illan, Israel, and anti-war activist Jerry Genesio of Bridgton have received the 2003 William Stringfellow Awards for Peace and Justice, awarded in honor of the lawyer and lay theologian, Bates Class of 1949, who was prominent in the American peace movement.
5/10, 2003: Bates College junior foward Tory Peterson (Rensselaer, N.Y.) was selected to the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Women's Division Academic All-America team in at a banquet in Naples, Fla., April 27th. In addition, Peterson was also selected Scholastic All-America by the American Women's Hockey Coaches Association, at the same function.
4/24, 2003: Nine students receive Bates-funded fellowships for research in foreign countries
4/10, 2003: Katharine Jensvold Shaw, a Bates College senior from Ithaca, N.Y., received one of 48 prestigious research fellowships awarded in March by the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship Program.
1/30, 2003: Lori E. Jessup of Hatboro, Pa., has received a national award for working with disabled Maine skiers

2004

10/7, 2004: Cristin McKnight, of Los Angeles, is the second Bates College graduate to receive a 2004-05 grant for postgraduate research from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
6/2, 2004: Michael P. Roberts, a recent Bates College graduate from Longmeadow, Mass., has received an award to support postgraduate research in Mongolia from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
4/14, 2004: A paid summer internship and fellowship working with national policy experts, journalists and academics at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C., has been awarded to Bates College junior Christopher Laconi of Falmouth, Maine.
4/14, 2004: The William Randolph Hearst Foundations have awarded Bates College a second grant of $100,000 to support scholarships that help make it possible for Maine students to attend Bates.
4/8, 2004: Twelve Bates College students have been awarded fellowships to support unusual off-campus research.

2002

Oct. 8, 2002: Challis J. E. Kinnucan, a Bates College senior from London, Ontario, has been awarded a $4,000 scholarship grant from the American Mathematical Society's Waldemar J. Trjitzinsky Fund.
April 25, 2002: Andrea J. Brewer, a Bates College junior from Traverse City, Mich., has been awarded a $32,000 scholarship from the Beinecke Scholarship program.
March 27, 2002: Diana Shaghayegh Sepehri, a Bates College senior born in Iran and now a resident of Sacramento, Calif., has received one of 60 prestigious research fellowships awarded this month by the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship Program.
May 23, 2002: Bates College senior Jenny Blau of Los Greenbrae, Calif., has been chosen as a recipient of the 2002 national Campus Compact Howard R. Swearer Humanitarian Award in recognition of her work in providing quality medical care for Latinos in Lewiston.
May 13, 2002: Two environmental studies majors at Bates College have received Philip J. Otis Fellowships to support research projects that will promote greater understanding of environmental issues and the connection between the environment and spirituality.
May 13, 2002: Four Bates College students have been named 2002 Phillips Student Fellows, recipients of an award that provides major funding for summer research projects involving meaningful immersion in different cultures.
Feb. 21, 2002: Trung Trong Huynh, a Portland resident and a senior at Bates College, is one of three students named to receive the Maine Campus Compact's 2002 Student Heart and Soul Award for outstanding contributions in community service and service-learning.
Feb. 13, 2002: Kristin J. Smith, a chemistry major at Bates, is one of four undergraduate students nationwide to receive the American Chemical Society's I.M. Kolthoff Enrichment Award.
