Rebecca W. Corrie received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from
Oberlin College and her Ph.D. from Harvard University. At Bates she teaches courses that range from the art of ancient Egypt to Islamic art and architecture, medieval European art and architecture, and the art of the Renaissance, including seminars on the painting of Siena and on Crusader art and architecture. She has been the recipient of grants and awards including a Fulbright-Hays grant for a year’s study in Vienna and a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a year of research in Rome. She has published widely on Italian manuscripts of the thirteenth century and images of the Virgin, focusing on the relationship between Italian and Byzantine art. Recently she contributed to the catalogues of internationally acclaimed exhibitions held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1997 and 2004, the Benaki Museum in 2001, and the Getty Museum in 2007. She has also published on Islamic textiles.
