2002 Golf

With no seniors on the 2001 roster, the Bates College men's and women's golf teams return basically intact for the 2002 campaign. The Bobcats will be led on the men's side by Andy Kadin '04 (Short Hills, N.J.). Kadin finished tied for 20th at the 2001 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships, held at Williams, and in the top 50 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championships. His 79-79-158 (+14) tied for 10th among Division III players, Bates' top individual performance ever at that meet.  He also tied for sixth at the State of Maine championships as Bates defeated CBB rivals Colby and Bowdoin to finish fifth. Senior  captain Doug Aho (Congers, N.Y.) will look to return to his 12th-place finish at the NESCAC championships, accomplished as a sophomore. The Bates women were paced by senior captain Melissa Wilcox '03 (Glastonbury, Conn.), who won the women's CBB title and finished fourth at the NESCAC championships.

Golf practice begins during the first week of school, with the first match in mid-September. Playing on some of the finest courses in New England, Bates enjoys a challenging schedule of 10 to 12 matches each year against NESCAC rivals andschools outside the conference, such as Husson College and the University of Southern Maine. Home matches and practices are held at Fox Ridge Golf Club in nearby Auburn, a 6,800-yard, par-72 course.
