1. Live in Lewiston: Bates on TV-13 tonight Viewers in central and southern Maine will get a chance to see Bates featured in two reports on the TV-13 WGME 5 p.m. newscast.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Bates President Elaine Tuttle Hansen will be interviewed by news reporter Lucas Colavecchio on Bates' many links with its Lewiston-Auburn community. She will also talk about a new "Welcome to L-A" walking tour of Lewiston for 400 first-year Bates students.
The tour, part of the College's orientation program, was organized by Bates and the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council. Paul Badeau of the Growth Council said a large part of the tour's success was "due to the hard work, persistence and resourcefulness" of Bates student Minh Le '06 of New Orleans, who did much of the planning as a council intern.
Also tonight, a WGME news team spotlights head rowing coach Andrew Carter and the Bates rowing team on how the sport takes advantage of the cleaned-up Androscoggin River.
All this week, WGME-TV is celebrating the opening of a new newsroom studio in downtown with special Lewiston-Auburn stories. Colavecchio says that the move into new offices is symbolic of a new emphasis by WGME on Lewiston and Auburn.
