The Bates College Modern Dance Company presents "In a Flurry," a program of dances by student and guest choreographers, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in Schaeffer Theatre, College Street. Admission is free. Eight dances are featured in "In a Flurry." Five are by students, two by guest choreographers and one by Carol Dilley, visiting assistant professor of dance at Bates. The guest choreographers are Ben Munisteri, of New York City, and Michael Foley, a member of the Bates class of 1989 and assistant professor of modern dance at the University of South Florida. Munisteri supplied "Better Etudes," set to music by the Dandy Warhols and P.J. Harvey. Foley's piece is "Mahalo," with music by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Munisteri is a New York City-based choreographer whose ensemble performs regularly in New York, at festivals and at other venues around the country. He has created dances for Pennsylvania Dance Theater, Danceworks Performance Company (Milwaukee), and many college companies. He recently received two major grants from the Jerome Foundation for the creation of new works. Michael Foley has been involved in professional dance for more than 15 years and has performed internationally in the companies of some two dozen choreographers. He has taught workshops and master classes throughout the United States, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. Foley has been the co-director of the Bates Dance Festival/Young Dancer’s Workshop since 1996. The student choreographers are Sarahbelle Marsh '05 of Grand Island, Neb.; Julie Gage '04, Clinton, Mass.; Julie Yeterian '06, Waterville, Maine; Claire Schneider '04, Madison, Wis.; and Yuzo Yamakazi, Kanagawa, Japan. New at Bates this year, Carol Dilley created the dance "6X1" and served as co-artistic director of the "Flurry" program with longtime Bates dance director Marcy Plavin.
