LEWISTON, Maine –
Twelve different players scored at least one goal as Bates College defeated the University of New England 22-0 in a non-league women's lacrosse game on Campus Avenue Field on Thursday afternoon.

Bates improved to 3-0 after a 20-day layover following the team's trip to California over Winter Break. The game was the season opener for the Nor'easters, who fell to 0-1.

Lori Jessup '04 (Hatboro, Pa.) led the Bobcats with four goals, while Erica Nason '05 (Concord, N.H.) and Becky Castle '04 (Stonington, Conn.) added three goals and an assist for Bates. Katherine Farmer '07 (Madison, Conn.) also scored three goals for Bates.

Smith was a big factor in the Bobcats' ability to control the game, winning nine draw controls.

Bates dominated the game from the opening draw, with Castle giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead just 45 seconds into the game. Bates built a 13-0 halftime lead, dominated the draws, controlling 18-of-24, and outshot the Nor'easters 41-5.

Liz McNamara '05 (Plainfield, N.H.) made three saves to record the shutout, the first for Bates since a 20-0 win over the University of Southern Maine on Mar. 26, 2002.

The Bobcats will open the NESCAC schedule this Sunday, facing Williams at 11 a.m. on Campus Avenue Field. UNE will face Virginia Wesleyan next Thursday in Norfolk, Va.
