Women's Lacrosse Falls to Second-Ranked Amherst

2004 LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates College women's lacrosse team trailed second-ranked Amherst by just four goals after the first half, but the Lord Jeffs scored five goals in the first 10:12 of the second half to pull away, defeating the Bobcats 17-6 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon on Campus Avenue Field. Ashley Harmeling scored three goals and added three assists to lead the Lord Jeffs, and Allison Aldrich and Liz Martin both scored three goals and added an assist. Scotty Hanley also had four points with two goals and two assists for Amherst, which improved to 5-0, 2-0 NESCAC. Lori Jessup '04 (Hatboro, Pa.) scored three goals and added an assist for the Bobcats, who fell to 4-4, 0-3. Jessup leads the team in scoring with 18 goals and three assists for 21 points. Amherst jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, but Bates came back, outscoring the Lord Jeffs 3-2 over the final two-thirds of the first half to trim the lead to 7-3 at halftime. Bates will host Colby on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on Campus Avenue Field. |
