Bobcats Close NESCAC East Schedule with Pair of Losses to Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bates College softball team closed the conference schedule on Wednesday, losing a pair of New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division games to Colby. Lauren Olmsted threw a one-hitter in the first game and drove in all four runs in the second game to lead the Mules to 7-0 and 4-0 wins.

Olmsted struck out two and walked four in game one, allowing only a single by Kelley Kugel '04 (Concord, N.H.) in the fourth inning. Wendy Bonner had a two-run single to lead Colby offense, which improved to 13-10-1, 3-5 NESCAC East.

In the second game, Olmsted went 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Bonner added a pair of hits and three runs. Bates was again shut down by Colby pitching, as Toni-Lynn Robbins threw a two-hitter, striking out six and walking four.

Bates fell to 5-14, 1-7. The Bobcats will play four games this weekend at the St. Joseph’s Tournament, including a pair against Colby.
