Softball Team Splits on First Day of St. Joseph's Tournament

2004 STANDISH, Maine – Kyla Decato was 3-for-4 with a two-run double to lead the Bates softball team to a 4-1 win over St. Joseph's, but the Bobcats committed five errors and struggled with runners on base in an 8-0 loss to Colby on the first day of the St. Joseph's Tournament on Saturday. Bates trailed the Monks 1-0 in the first game, but Decato '06 (Paris, Maine) plated Amanda Beck '04 (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Cami Dyson '04 (Arvada, Colo.) with a double to left center. Kelley Kugel ‘04 (Concord, N.H.) was 2-for-4 with an RBI double, Andrea Lichtman '06 (Alfred, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 and Caitlin Murphy '07 (Westwood, Mass.) was 2-for-4 for the Bobcats. Sarah Klenakis threw a complete game for the victory for Bates, allowing seven hits and striking out four. Wendy Bonner had four RBI and Elizabeth Riley went 3-for-4 to lead Colby over the Bobcats in five innings in the team's second game of the day. Dayna Krakower '05 (Derwood, Md.) led Bates, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Bates, now 6-15, will face Brandeis and Colby in the tournament on Sunday. |
