Masino Throws Four-Hit Shutout, Softball Splits with Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Kristin Masino threw a complete game four hitter to lead the Bates softball team to a 1-0 win over Wesleyan in the final game of the season on Saturday afternoon. Bates lost the first game of the doubleheader, 3-0.

Molly Gaebe threw a one-hitter in the first game for Wesleyan, striking out 11 and walking four. Stacie Szmonko led the Cardinal offense, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI, while Diana Garcia was 2-for-2. Kyla Decato '06 (Paris, Maine) had the lone hit for the Bobcats.

Masino '07 (North Arlington, N.J.) had the best outing of the season in the second game striking out two with no walks to earn her second win of the season.

Kelley Kugel '04 (Concord, N.H.) scored the only run of the game on a defensive miscue in the third inning. Kugel was 2-for-4, and Caitlyn Murphy '07 (Westwood, Mass.) was also 2-for-4 for the Bobcats.

Beth Bernstein went 2-for-2 to lead the Cardinals.

Bates finished the season 8-19, while Wesleyan moved to 11-20.
