NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships LEWISTON, Maine (May 4, 2004) - The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis field was narrowed from 27 to eight teams over the weekend. Emory, Washington (Mo.), Trinity (Tex.), Middlebury, Gustavus Adolphus, Williams, Mary Washington and UC Santa Cruz all advanced through NCAA Regional rounds over the weekend. The quarterfinal round will begin on Wednesday, May 12 at 9 a.m. The semifinals will be contested on Thursday, May 13, with the championship and third-place matches taking place on Friday, May 14. Atlantic South Regional Roundup After breezing through their first-round match with Carnegie Mellon, 7-0, Mary Washington defeated Swarthmore 4-2 to advance to the semifinal round. Paul Bristow and Dan Uyar won both singles and doubles match for the Eagles. Central Regional Roundup Gustavus Adolphus advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over Carthage and a 4-0 win over Coe. Loren Collins and Brett Morse-Karzen won both of their singles and doubles matches for the Gusties. Northeast Regional Roundup Williams earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over Bates and a 7-0 victory over Bowdoin in the second round. Jeff Kivitz, John Haywood and Lee Urban won both singles and doubles matches for the Ephs. West Regional Roundup Trinity (Tex.) earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a 5-0 win over Whitman. Sean Fifield won at first singles and first doubles to lead the Tigers. |
