2003 Program Notes

The Bates women's soccer team will look to replace four players that graduated last spring, including first-team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) midfielder Krissie Whiting and four-year starting goalkeeper, Kim Martell, who played all but 100 minutes last year. But much of the offense, ranked second in the NESCAC with over 2.7 goals per game, returns to the pitch of the Russell Street Field for the 2003 season.

Returning on offense are a pair of sophomore forwards, Kathleen Nugent '06 and Jenna Benson '06. Nugent led the team with seven assists and Benson was second with six. Nugent finished the season tied for the most assists per game in the conference. Benson also scored the only goal in Bates' 1-0 victory over the University of Maine-Farmington on "Senior Day". The Bobcats success in 2003 could depend on finding a goalkeeper for the first time in four years.
