2003-04 Program Notes
The women's tennis program at Bates made tremendous strides from the beginning of the season to the end, starting the fall with a 3-5 record, then improving to 3-3 in the spring. The team capped the year with an eighth-place finish at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships, one year after finishing 11th. Head coach Paul Gastonguay was named the conference's Coach of the Year at the 2003 conference championships, and the future looks bright for the Bobcats, who return all but one player for the Fall 2003 season. Tara DeVito (East Hills, N.Y.), in her second year as the team's No. 1 singles player, teamed with Liz Currie (Yarmouth, Maine) to advance to the NESCAC semifinals in the No. 2 doubles competition. Heather Bracken (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Diana Wilkinson (Los Angeles, Calif.) improved over the course of the season and Gastonguay will look forward to seeing them continue in the fall. Lindsay Yost (Erie, Pa.) will also look to be a consistent point scorer in both singles and doubles matches.
