Bobcats Force Overtime, but Veazie Wins it for UMF

2004 FARMINGTON, Maine – Kristy Veazie scored 10:47 into overtime to give the University of Maine at Farmington a 3-2 win over the Bates field hockey team in the Bobcats' season opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Beavers took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Kristen Allen. Erin Chandler '08 (Thornton, Pa.) tied the game for Bates in her first collegiate game off an assist from Allison Marshall, but UMF again took the lead as Kristi Cochin scored with just 11:01 left in regulation. Bates' Megan Petry '07 (Crestwood, Ky.) tied the game with her first career goal with just 4:08 to play to force the overtime period. Ashleigh Biette made eight saves for the Beavers, while Sarah Judice '06 (Granby, Conn.) stopped three shots for the Bobcats. Bates, 0-1 on the season, will host the University of Southern Maine in its home opener at 4 p.m. on Thursday. UMF improved to 2-1. |
