Women's Tennis Dominates USM in Season Opener

GORHAM, Maine – The Bates College women's tennis team got the 2004-05 season started with a dominating performance, defeating the University of Southern Maine 8-1 on Tuesday.

Tara DeVito '05 (East Hills, N.Y.) won at first singles when her opponent retired after DeVito won the first set, 7-5. Emma Nochomovitz '07 (Cleveland, Ohio) and Liz Currie '06 (Yarmouth, Maine) won by 6-0, 6-0 scores and third and fourth singles, respectively, for the Bobcats.

DeVito, Nochomovitz and Laura Harris '07 (Mercer Island, Wash.) won singles and doubles matches for the Bobcats, who start the season 1-0. USM fell to 1-2.

Bates will face Connecticut College on the road on Sunday.
