Amherst Tops Field Hockey Team, 4-0

AMHERST, Mass. – Erin Leydon scored a pair of goals to lead the Amherst field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Bates in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.

Leydon gave the Lord Jeffs a 1-0 lead just over 15 minutes into the game on an assist from Katherine Skrivan. Lauren Anderson gave Amherst a two-goal edge less than two minutes later, and Leydon pushed the lead to 3-0 with just over two minutes remaining in the first half off an assist from Rachel Carr-Harris.

Carolyn Shea scored with under 15 minutes to play off an assist from Molly Gilbert to close the scoring.

Sarah Judice '06 (Granby, Conn.) made 10 saves for the Bobcats, while K.C. Cosentino made five saves to earn the win.

Bates, now 3-3, 1-1 NESCAC, will face Tufts in Medford, Mass., on Saturday.
