Field Hockey Falls to 20th-Ranked Williams

LEWISTON, Maine – Tara Boyd and Sarah Dupont each scored two goals to lead Williams to a 7-1 win over Bates in a New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey game on Campus Avenue Field on Saturday afternoon.

Cara Whipple scored just three minutes into the game to give Williams a 1-0 lead. Bates stayed close to the 20th-ranked Ephs for most of the first half, but Dupont sandwiched both her goals around a Boyd tally in a span of less than four minutes to give the Ephs a 4-0 halftime lead.

Elspeth MacMillan scored early in the second half, and Boyd and Steph Downs added insurance goals for the Ephs.

Brooke Anable '06 (Plymouth, N.H.) scored the lone goal for Bates off an assist from Liz Greenwood '07 (Williamstown, Mass.).

Sarah Sprague '07 (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) and Sarah Judice '06 (Granby, Conn.) combined for 13 saves for Bates, while Emily Wasserman made eight second half saves for Williams.

The Ephs improved to 7-1, 4-1 NESCAC, while Bates fell to 3-6, 1-3. The Bobcat will face Bowdoin on Wednesday in Brunswick.
