DeVito Leads Women's Tennis to 13th at NEWITT

2004 AMHERST, Mass. – Tara DeVito advanced to the first singles quarterfinals and teamed with Laura Harris to win a first round doubles match to lead the Bates College women's tennis team to a tie for 13th at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament. DeVito '05 (East Hills, N.Y.) defeated her first round opponent, Caitlyn Leone of Roger Williams, 6-4, 6-0, then easily defeated Regis' Aurore Lormeus, 6-2, 6-0. Third seeded Ashley Kriwinsky of Wheaton defeated DeVito 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. DeVito and Harris '07 (Mercer Island, Wash.) won their first round second doubles match 8-5, but lost to a Williams team in the Round of 16. Emma Nochomovitz '07 (Cleveland, Ohio) and Liz Currie ‘06 (Yarmouth, Maine) also won singles matches for the Bobcats. Bates scored six points to finish tied for 13th in the 22-team tournament. Middlebury won the tournament with 37 points, while Tufts was second with 32. The women's tennis team will resume the 2004-05 season in the spring. |
