Women's Tennis Bests Smith

2005 LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates College women’s tennis team rallied in singles play to win its first-ever match against Smith College, played Saturday afternoon at the Wallach Tennis Center. The Bobcats started out sluggishly, winning only one of the doubles matches. The Bobcats, however, rallied, winning four of six singles matches to even their season record at 7-7. The lone victory in doubles was at the No. 1 position: Emma Nochomovitz ’07 (Cleveland, Ohio) and Cecilia Grissa ’08 (Doylestown, Pa.) started out the match down 0-5 but fought back to win 9-7. In singles play, the Bobcats took control early with Grissa losing only one game before her opponent retired. Liz Currie ’06 (Yarmouth, Maine), Laura Harris ’07 (Mercer Island, Wash.), and Nochomovitz all defeated their opponents in straight sets. The Bobcats now turn their focus to exams and then a CBB championship match-up against Bowdoin on April 25th at 4 p.m., at the Wallach Tennis Center. Bates def. Smith, 5-4 DOUBLES: 1.
