LEWISTON, Maine –  The Bates College softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday. The Bobcats won the first game, 10-2, but lost the second 10-4.

Starting pitcher and co-captain Sarah Klenakis '05 (Springfield, Mass.) scattered four hits across five innings, allowing only two earned runs to pick up the win. Lauren Stacey took the hard-luck loss for UMF, allowing nine runs in her three innings; only two of them were earned.

Bates jumped on UMF in the bottom of the second inning, scoring seven runs by taking advantage of four errors from the Farmington shortstop and third baseman. C Carolyn King '07 (Hanover, Mass.) hit a two-run double in the frame, and co-captain SS Erin Foye '05 (New London, Conn.) chipped in with an RBI single in the frame.

In the second game, UMF followed the formula Bates used in the first game to perfection, taking advantage of four Bates errors to score ten runs off of starter Kristin Masino '07 (North Arlington, N.J.) before the Bobcats could get on the scoreboard. Masino took the loss for Bates despite allowing only 2 earned runs.

Stephanie Moriarty got the win for UMF, allowing seven hits over seven innings and taking a shutout into the sixth. Bates mounted a rally in the bottom of the sixth, pushing four unearned runs across the plate to narrow the score. Lissa Moses '06 (Hamden, Conn.) provided the big blow in the inning, collecting two RBI with a one-out single.
