LEWISTON, Maine – Led by three-hit performances from senior captains Adam Taranto (Sudbury, Mass.) and Charlie Engasser (Chanhassen, Minn.), the Bates College baseball team improved to 3-10 Monday afternoon, beating Thomas College, 10-2, at Leahey Field.

Mike Kinsman ’05 (Yarmouth, Maine) improved to 3-1, scattering four hits (one earned) in a complete-game effort.

Every Bates starter recorded a hit, with six players – including Taranto and Engasser – recording multiple hits.

Complementing the captains’ three-hit turnout, Brian Mahoney ’08 (Sudbury, Mass.), Adam Worrall ’06 (Duxbury, Mass.), Tyler Paul ’06 (Great Falls, Mont.) and Kyohei Yamada ’05 (Kamatsu, Japan) all had two-hit games. Mahoney also had two RBI, as did Engasser.

Philip Schools ’08 (Gorham, Maine) took the loss for Thomas, giving up seven runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings.

Bates led 10-0 after five innings, but Thomas managed to push two across the plate in the seventh on Tim Mercier’s ’06 (Lewiston, Maine) RBI single, scoring Aaron Bouyea ’07 (Lewiston, Maine) and Scott Brawn ’05 (Augusta, Maine).
