Amherst's Third-Quarter Run Downs Men's Lacrosse

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bates College men’s lacrosse team dipped to 8-2 Wednesday, falling to New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent Amherst College, 11-9, in a game played at Harvard University. Led by senior Alex Casertano (Millbrook, N.Y.), who scored five goals, Amherst improved to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in NESCAC. The Bobcats dipped to 4-2 in conference play. Bates led early, opening a 3-1 lead in the first quarter on goals by Brent Morin ’08 (Hanover, N.H.), Wes Couture ’07 (South Hadley, Mass.) and David Pritchard ’06 (Narbeth, Pa.). Nine players scored for the Bobcats; Dan Ross ’05 (Silver Spring, Md.) was the only Bates player to record multiple points, notching a goal and an assist. With the score tied, 4-4, at halftime, Amherst exploded for six goals in the third period and one more in the fourth, outscoring Bates 7-5 in the second half. Three of Casertano’s five goals came in the second half. Also scoring multiple goals for Amherst, Derek Cherney ’07 (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Josh Cherney ’05 (Chappaqua, N.Y.) had two apiece. Colby Griffith ’05 (Lexington, Mass.) finished with three assists. |
