Men's Lacrosse Falls to Bowdoin

2005 LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates College men’s lacrosse team lost its fourth straight game on Wednesday, falling to Bowdoin 11-5. Bates is now 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Bowdoin is 9-4 and 6-2 in NESCAC. Bowdoin opened the scoring on a goal by Vinay Kashyap ’05 (Ridgewood, N.J.) three minutes into play. Bates tied the score Pete Friedman’s ’05 (Putney, Vt.) unassisted goal, but Ford Barker ’06 (Southborough, Mass.) tallied another for the Polar Bears, who led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats picked up their scoring in the second quarter with three goals scored by Justin Simon ’08 (Canaan, N.H.), Brent Morin ’08 (Hanover, N.H.), and Wes Couture ’07 (South Hadley, Mass.). Bowdoin, however, retained the lead, 5-4, at halftime, 5-4 with three goals, two of which came from Andy Nelson ’06 (Marston Mills, Mass.). The Polar Bears dominated play in the second half, scoring six unanswered goals to go up 11-4 at the start of the fourth quarter. John Kinnane ’07 (Little Compton, R.I.) notched the final goal of the game for the Bobcats, scoring with three minutes left in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 11-5 in Bowdoin’s favor. Leading the scoring for Bowdoin was Matt Chadwick ’07 (Needham, Mass.) and Connor Fitzgerald ’06 (Hingham, Mass.) each tallying two goals and an assist. Bates’ goalie Paul Kazarian ’06 (Providence, R.I) finished with 10 saves, while Bowdoin goalie Charles Legg ’07 (Baltimore, Md.) finished with seven saves. |
