Program Notes
The season begins with several open invitationals in September and early October. The championship portion of the season lasts for about a month, with the team vying for Open New England, State of Maine, New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and ECAC titles before competing for a spot at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship at the NCAA New England Regional Championship. Early season races are generally 5-kilometers, but the ECAC and NCAA Regional Championships are the full 6-kilometer distance that is contested at the NCAA Championship. 2003 Recap/2004 Outlook
Creswell will be the top returning runner in 2004, and although the Bobcats will lose three of their top-five runners to graduation, the younger runners weren't very far behind the seniors last year, as the team's gap from first to seventh averaged just 1:15. Kathryn Moore '07 (Pelham, N.H.) made an immediate impact as a top-five runner in her rookie season, and Leslie Milk '05 (Elma, N.Y.) will also be a leader for Bates after dropping more than 90 seconds off her best 6K time to finish 52nd at the regional championship. |
