Program Notes

Sarah Overmyer was a Second-Team All-NESCAC and Second-Team All-New England back in 2003.
The Bates College field hockey team gives student-athletes a chance to play in one of the most competitive NCAA Division III conferences in the nation. Student athletes on the field hockey team are expected to be committed to the team and become responsible members of the Bates community. Individuals interested in playing collegiate field hockey with a strong academic background, a desire to learn and a positive attitude should consider applying to Bates.

The regular season consists of a 14-game schedule, including nine games against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents. The top seven teams in the regular season standings qualify for the NESCAC Championship, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.

2003 Recap/2004 Outlook
Bates finished the 2003 season with a 2-12 record and did not advance to the NESCAC Championship. The Bobcats opened the season with a 6-2 win over Keene State, and almost came back to tie NCAA runner-up Middlebury after falling behind 4-0, scoring three goals in the final six minutes.

The Bobcats will be a young team this fall with just three juniors and three seniors returning. Second-Team All-NESCAC and Second-Team All-Region back Sarah Overmyer '05 (Ann Arbor, Mich.) will likely be the top returning offensive and defensive player.
