LEWISTON, Maine -- Comedian Elayne Boosler, one of the busiest comedians touring the country today, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Bates College Chapel in an appearance sponsored by the Bates College Democrats. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

A veteran of performances for "Politically Incorrect," "The NBC Today Show," "The Late Show with David Letterman," CNN's "Crossfire" and "Larry King Live," Boosler has also entertained the Queen of England on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Royal Command Performance.

Known for her provocative political material, Boosler has soloed in the nation's capital for the White House Press Correspondents dinner and the Ford Theater Gala, both attended by President Clinton and members of Congress.

Boosler got her start in comedy during the 1970s when Andy Kaufman spotted her filling in at the music and comedy club where she waited tables. He convinced her to do standup comedy. Her success with audiences continued into the 1980s when she began splitting her time between touring and writing for television. Her television credits include the Rodney Dangerfield special "It Ain't Easy Being Me," "Disney Goes to the Oscars" and the NBC series "The Shape of Things." Boosler wrote city-by-city customized material for Barbra Streisand's 1995 summer tour.
